Ice Class for Government Vessels

BMT has teamed with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to offer a new version of its popular course on ships in ice.

The increasing interest in Arctic offshore development and shipping operations in the commercial sector is matched by increasing concern by many governments in maintaining sovereignty, exercising control, supporting science missions and developing an improved emergency response capability.

New Coast Guard and navy programs are underway in Canada, Denmark, the US and other polar nations. These programs need to incorporate best design practices and state-of-the-art understanding of key challenges and solutions.

The BMT and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) lecturers who will deliver the course modules have extensive experience ranging from the development of the new international ice class rules to the design of a wide range of ice-capable ships and the performance of cutting-edge research and development into ice-structure mechanics.
