Compliance Audit

BMT was contracted to evaluate a vessels compliance with current and proposed regulations.

The Requirement

BMT was contracted by the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation to provide an evaluation of the Adams Lake Ferry vessel's compliance to existing and proposed regulatory changes under the existing regulatory regime.

Approach

Due to the configuration of the vessel, six independent watertight sections bolted together, an analysis of the vessel's stability was conducted.

Together with an on site survey of the vessel's condition, recommendations to ensure compliance with construction, sub division, structural fire protection and equipment (machinery and electrical) regulations was produced. Cost estimates for four reconfigurations of the existing vessel were produced.

Outcome

The costs associated with bringing the vessel up to present standards will be used to form the basis of a negotiated transfer of the vessel from government ownership to private interests.
