NAV CANADA is a private sector, non-share, capital corporation delivering all civil air navigation services for Canadian airspace. With operations coast to coast, NAV CANADA provides air traffic control, flight information, weather briefings, aeronautical information services, airport advisory services and electronic aids to navigation. These services control the movement of millions of passengers through Canadian airspace every year and have achieved worldwide recognition for safety and reliability.
BMT was requested to deliver a series of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) courses to NAV CANADA maintenance managers and supporting engineering staff to assist them in optimizing the maintenance program for the NAV CANADA equipment.
ILS identifies the support required for a given design to perform its operational profile with the objective of ensuring a system is available when needed and reliable in operation.
The course content described the principles of ILS and how they should be applied along with practical methods of analyzing maintenance data to determine the optimal maintenance program.
The bespoke courses created for NAV CANADA were based on the BMT approach, which emphasizes the integration of data to produce ILS products in a format compatible with the customers' business and technical processes. It allows great flexibility in how the products are defined and delivers the items needed to support a system in accordance with the operational and maintenance policies of the owner. The approach emphasizes review and continuous improvement to ensure the systems achieve their required levels of performance throughout their service life.
